Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Other Content Providers to come Under Regulation of the Government of India

As per the latest Government Regulation, various online news portals and content providers have now come under the scrutiny of the Government of India. With this announcement, content providers, including Netflix and Amazon Prime, will be regulated by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.

Prakash Javadekar, The Information and Broadcasting Minister, has stated that there is a need to regulate over-the-top platforms. In India, the print media, the news channels, and the film industry are monitored by different regulating bodies.

Hence, the latest move was introduced to bring online news portals and content providers under regulation. However, the involvement of the Government might make things worse for online news portals and content providers.

But only time will tell whether or not this move seems justified.
