John Mueller throws Light on Why Mobile and Desktop Rankings Differ
Google's John Mueller has thrown light on why search results tend to differ in mobile and desktop. He explains several factors as to why the searches are sometimes different.
Mueller starts explaining by adding that both indexing and ranking are different things. A few possible reasons that might alter the rankings include - the context of the searcher and the device used. While searching on a desktop, you might want more images and videos to be seen related to the search results.
The above might be one of the factors responsible for the difference in the ranking between mobile and desktop. Personalization is also said to play a crucial role in the occasional differences occurring in search rankings between mobile and desktop searches.
The user needs on a mobile device might be different from someone on a desktop device.
